TRIPS AND VISITS at SSPP
The staff at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School recognise the importance of providing a high quality education and are committed to providing educational opportunities that enable all children to enhance and enrich their learning in a variety of different ways. We recognise that the best way to learn is often by experiencing an event or action rather than by reading about or hearing it in a classroom. Therefore, we look to provide many opportunities for our children to have real life experiences utilising our many outdoor and off-site educational visits.

At SS Peter and Paul we currently run two overnight residential trips, a two night stay for our Year 4 children and a four night stay for our Year 6 children.
Over the past three years our Year 4 children have visited Culmington Manor, a Manor Adventure Centre in the South Shropshire Hills. There are a variety of activities that the children experience whilst they are at the centre all of which take part on their extensive 100 acre estate. Our Year 6 children have attended Arthog Outdoor Education Centre in North Wales for a number of years, this is a centre run by Telford and Wrekin Council. Arthog provides children with wonderful experiences which take place off site in a number of beautiful locations in Snowdonia National Park.
The children take part in a variety of activities including: rock climbing, gorge walking, canoeing, mountain walking, team building, beach conservation.

During their stay at Arthog the children also have the opportunity of taking part in the John Muir Award which gives the children a chance to help with conservation, sharing their love of wild places and adventure as well as being responsible for leaving the natural environment as we find it. Outdoor Learning Day
In May 2019 we successfully ran our first Outdoor Learning Day as part of Outdoor Classroom Day. Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor play and learning, at home and at school. On Outdoor Classroom Day itself, which has two dates each year, teachers celebrate with a special day outdoors for their class. Please see website for additional information.
Our Outdoor learning day for 2023 will be held on Thursday 25th May.
As part of outdoor learning day we were able to provide learning in the outdoors for all children in school at our local Chetwynd Deer Park, which is also the location of our Forest School site.
There was a range of exciting activities for the children to take part in using a range of different providers including:
Arthog Outreach (canoeing, climbing wall and team building games)
Harper Adams (lego activity, sheep shearing)
Scrappies (creating natural art)
At SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School, we see Educational Visits and Outdoor and Adventurous Activities as an integral part of the children’s education. This is our chance to bring the curriculum alive and create magic moment that children can hang their knowledge and new learning on this helps them build the connections within and across their learning.
They offer opportunities to enrich the curriculum, enabling the children to have first-hand experience of a wide range of experiences and activities. On residential visits especially, there is opportunity to develop social skills which have a long-lasting beneficial effect. The many benefits to the children include:
